About two dozen antelope, which we saw in a field north of
Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Two bison, sighted through binoculars at Badlands National
Park in South Dakota.
Thirty bighorn sheep.
One of them we saw at the same lookout as the bison, but instead of
being far away, it wandered boldly right through the viewing area! Mom wants me to mention that that was her favourite part of the day - seeing me jump about a mile high with excitement when I noticed it right beside me.
Four dozen prairie dogs, the first spotted while poking its
head up at the side of the road.
Too many chipmunks and squirrels to count. When stopped for a great view in Rocky
Mountain National Park in Colorado, we found a whole colony! They weren’t scared of us at all, and one
even climbed on my hand.
About thirty elk. The
first sighting was from the road, but heard their strange ‘rutting calls’ the
night before, which sounded like a cross between a scream and a bad orchestra.
Four mule deer. They
wandered through the campsite, and Maeve and I took some great shots.Four bald eagles. Our first sighting was near the Canada-US border, with more as we went.
Too many turkey vultures to count. Quite appropriately, when
we pulled in for a fast-food dinner in small town Wyoming, there were about 60
circling.
One pika, spotted near the chipmunk colony.
One yellow-bellied marmot, that a Rocky Mountain park ranger
pointed out.
One magpie. When we
were driving past a lookout, it was sitting on a signpost.
A great tally! Keep on truckin'. Love Grandma xxoo
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome Sam. Great documenting! Keep us posted on what else you see.
ReplyDeleteHi Sam,
ReplyDeleteWayne and I are very excited that you are close to Utah... our favourite state from our travels this year. I agree with mom, it would have been cool to see you jump when you had a visitor to your viewing area! Safe travels, love Karen
Hi, Sam!
ReplyDeleteMy wildlife tally is growing slowly here on land. We saw a dragonfly one day, and two beetles at the El Djem amphitheatre. I think it's a bit sad when insects are topping a wildlife spotting list. If we count domesticated animals, then I can add donkeys, camels and A LOT of sheep. In a few weeks the second festival of Eid is coming, and every household needs to slaughter a sheep, so now I am seeing sheep right in town. There were 3 at the gas station just down the street. (Un?)fortunately, we are leaving just a few days before Eid, so we won't see it.
