Boy, 9, Assaulted By Rooster

by Dan Rheault (staff reporter)

A visiting boy was viciously attacked by a domestic rooster Wednesday morning in Moab, Utah.  Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

While making pancakes in their rented 1970's mobile home, Sam Brown's father sent Sam out to the car to get something or other.  He shortly heard a loud yell and went to investigate, finding Sam about a block away in bare feet.

Reportedly, the large red-crowned bird had run toward Sam upon spotting him, pecking at his legs and feet.  The neighbour's dog did not help matters by trying to leap over its fence in the excitement.

When the shock wore off, Sam resumed his eager anticipation of Arches National Park, and his fond memory of the night before's awesome dinner at a Mexican restaurant in Moab.

However, the rooster refused comment, instead strutting around proudly and making strange noises.

  1. Ha! This is a funny story! I have also been chased by a chicken, so I completely empathize with the boy in this story! I also have been to Arches national park, and thought it was awesome. I loved the hikes! Will you all be doing a canyon hike? We didn't. I was too worried about flash floods.
