Little Bits of Beauty Over the Past Couple of Days

My fingers are too cold this morning. Bryce Canyon is spectacular - and freezing cold in the morning!!! Seriously, freezing. I'm wearing everything I brought right now, but know full well I'll be in a tank top and shorts by the time we reach the canyon floor this afternoon. Here are a few photos, in random-ish order. It has not been difficult to find little and big bits of beauty over the past week. We are a lucky, happy family. More stories to accompany the photos when warmer and connected again!

One of the amazing arches at Arches NP. Can you spot the boy beneath, working in the shade on his Jr. Ranger book?

They could barely stand still for a moment, eager to scramble down between the hoodoos to the canyon floor.
Many of the bristle cone pines have been hit by lightning at Bryce. We called this one the Tim Burton Tree.

Sam named this hoodoo Croc Head.

On our brief bookstore visit to Denver, we were so happy to see painted pianos lining the pedestrian malls. Good tunes!

Maeve named this one, Camel.
Maeve, at work on her Jr Ranger book. Note the red rock plateau out the window.

A gorgeous rainbow greeted us in Moab, Utah, after our only heavy day of rain. Flash floods are exciting!

Walking in the alpine tundra of the Rockies is a good way to spend an afternoon.

Yes, that is my family, very high on the rocks at Arches. I was not afraid.

Being silly on gorgeous scenic byway 128.

Our favourite bookstore, Back of Beyond, in Moab.

  2. Grampie Wayne is enjoying your blog and looks forward to it every time he opens his computer! We stood on the same rocks and in the same places that you have been this week. How cool is that!
In the thin air we also were quickly running out of breath! The hikes were well worth it when we saw the hoodoos up close and the beautiful arches in Moab.
Thanks for the detailed writing and beautiful pictures. Love Grampie Wayne and Karen

  4. I would say Utah is one of my favourite places on the planet, but it doesn't look like it *is* on the planet. Such a beautiful place you have taken yourselves to!

  5. Scrambling over rocks and climbing heights. Sounds great! Too bad there is no rushing water...or not, as one of your comments received noted the danger of flash floods. Love Grandma xxooo

Tonight we sat together after dinner and read all of your blog entries. So many adventures and a whole lot of beauty in such a short time. Looking forward to staying tuned to hear how it continues to unfold!

  8. I've been without internet for five days so catching up with your adventures is like reading a great travel novel. Looking forward to the next chapter.
